Websites

It was a privilege to work with the Henrys Lake Foundation to update their entire website. Since the foundation was founded in 1981, there were considerable amounts of content to transfer over and organize. The original website had 17 menu tabs and four decades worth of newsletters, news articles, and project reports. The goal was to create a visually appealing design, both simplifying and organizing without losing content. The client also wanted a way to accept membership applications, dues, and donations online. Apart from the basic web design, I also performed a light copyedit and wrote additional content where needed. Visit the entire site at www.henryslakefoundation.com.

I was on the Bitesize LLC team which designed the DivorceRight website. I helped write the text and provided feedback about the website’s layout and usability. I provided heavy copyediting for the entire site.

I wrote this piece as part of the Bitesize Health & Wellness program. This Action Plan had two parts—a brief lesson (to be read and digested in just a few minutes) and a specific call for action. Though short and easy to read, I used statistical data and a credible source to help the content carry a greater punch.

I wrote this article as part of a fitness program for Bitesize Health & Wellness. For this project, our target audience was middle-class women between the ages of 30-45. Each day participants were sent short educational lessons and asked to act upon one of the principles taught.

I wrote and designed this document to help homeowners understand the building approval process for a local HOA. To complete the project, I extensively researched the subdivision’s CC&Rs and collaborated with board members.

I was on the team which helped research and write this demo. The 5-day demo was designed to illustrate how a Bitesize Track could help experienced teachers mentor new teachers. I drew on my eleven years in education to offer insights into learning disabilities and the new teacher experience. Apart from content collaboration, I also copyedited the document.

Academic Writing

As an online college professor, I wrote and posted announcements for my ESL students multiple times every week. To target their language needs, I utilized white space, limited text, and visual guides such as colorful section headings and bullets to direct their attention. I also used images, video, audio, and linked them to further resources. To help establish my instructor persona, I kept my tone friendly, motivational, and professional.

For my master’s thesis, I explored the history of computers in composition, looking specifically at the evolution of multimodal composition. I argued that in order to effectively integrate multimodality into the composition classroom, teachers must balance convention and change by grounding instruction and assessment on traditional rhetorical pedagogy while also addressing the affordances unique to each communication mode.
